Drone Defence as a Strategic Capability
Yesterday, MyDefence was featured on TV2 News as the Danish government announced a major initiative to enhance national security. The unveiling of a DKK 50 billion “acceleration fund” marks a decisive step in strengthening Denmark’s military armament efforts. This initiative not only addresses modern warfare challenges but also ensures that Denmark remains prepared for emerging threats.
Through our close collaboration with frontline forces in Ukraine, we have witnessed firsthand the necessity and timeliness of this initiative. The urgency to strengthen military capabilities is dictated by the realities of modern, electronic warfare. Drones, which can be acquired at a fraction of the cost of traditional military assets, can destroy to military vehicles worth millions. These threats are not limited to the battlefield – critical infrastructure such as power plants, airports, and government institutions are also vulnerable. A coordinated approach between defence forces, law enforcement, and private sector stakeholders is essential to mitigating these risks.
Investing in technologies such as counter-drone systems is not only essential for security but also a strategic economic decision. Every investment in Danish defence technology generates substantial returns.

“With 80 % of production exported, advancements in defence technology enhances Denmark’s global competitiveness.”
– Dan Hermansen, Chief Executive Officer, MyDefence.
Danish defence companies excel in collaboration, reinforcing each other’s success in export markets while contributing to national security. Furthermore, the Danish defence industry thrives on synergy, with minimal internal competition as companies develop distinct yet complementary technologies that integrate seamlessly.
Denmark’s role in NATO and EU defence cooperation highlights the importance of strengthening our counter-drone capabilities. A robust national strategy will not only enhance Denmark’s security but also contribute to allied defence efforts. As drone threats continue to evolve, scalable solutions and rapid implementation are crucial to maintaining a strong defence posture. Danish expertise in technology and innovation places us in a prime position to lead developments in AI-driven counter-drone systems, which are becoming increasingly essential in modern warfare.
The rapid advancement of drone technology underscores the need for continued investment in research and development. By fostering collaboration between the defence industry, universities, and tech startups, Denmark can drive innovation and ensure that our military remains ahead of emerging threats. The ability to rapidly deploy and adapt counter-drone technology is vital to protecting both military and civilian infrastructure.
